A family's pit bull attacked their 19-month-old toddler in Norco early Monday morning, dragging the girl in its jaws before a neighbor could pry the her free, KTLA-TV reported.
The Riverside County Fire Department confirmed a female toddler was bit ?multiple times? on the 600 block of 6th Street around 9:23 a.m. Monday. Paramedics took the toddler to Corona Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for moderate injuries but no major puncture wounds, KTLA-TV reported.
The family?s baby-sitter told the TV station the toddler wandered just outside the front door and dropped her water cup near the pit bull. The dog grabbed then the toddler?s leg and dragged her to the corner of the yard, where a neighbor, Larry Gordon, came to the rescue, the station reported.
?The dog had the baby, so I jumped the fence and I was beating the dog with a stick and it wouldn't let go,? Gordon said. ?So I pried his jaws open, got the baby's leg out of the dog's mouth and called the [baby-sitter] to come and get her.?
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that the dog was quarantined by animal control. Riverside animal control officials and the San Bernardino County Sheriff?s Department did not immediately return calls from The Times.
Officials did not identify the victim, the victim?s family or the name of the dog. ??
